Katy’s career in the entertainment industry began in England working as a producer. Her film career includes 8 films with renowned director Sam Peckinpah including Straw Dogs and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid and the Academy Award winning Deer Hunter with Director Michael Cimino. In 1981, Katy produced Blade Runner with Michael Deeley and Sir Ridley Scott. Her career includes several documentaries and she is currently in development on various TV and Film productions.

Katy is a founding member and Board member of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Los Angeles (BAFTA LA) since 1990. As Chair of the Outreach Committee Katy she spearheaded the Helen Keller Park screening facility in 2005, which enables inner city communities to see first run movies. Gang abatement was an important result of this endeavour. The program has been so successful that the County Parks and Recreation are renovating the park, with a community centre that will have a permanent BAFTA LA screening room and a once gang ravaged park has been returned to the community

Katy was the Executive Director of Justiceville/Homeless USA’s Dome Village transitional housing community for the homeless from 1993 – 2006. In December 2007, she was the Executive Director of Spirit of Youth, a non-profit student exchange program between the US and the UK(www.soy-us.com). Katy has been actively working in the gang prevention arena from 2006 – 2008 as Executive Director of CURE, a gang prevention program establishing relationships with the LA Police Department, Sherriff and Probation Departments.

In 1995 Katy Haber co-founded the LA Krickets Homeless cricket team with Ted Hayes and in 1996 The Compton Cricket Club, as a highly successful Gang prevention tool. (www.comptoncricketclub.org). Katy Haber is the recipient of the 2010 Martin Luther King Keeper of the Dream Award and joins us having just received an Honorary Doctor of Arts Degree from the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom not only for her film career but volunteer work with the homeless and disenfranchised.

Katy will co-present (with Ted Hayes) a case study of the Compton Cricket Club.
