Lisa Annitti grew up in an Italian family in Northern New Jersey where large meals and loud discussion were always the norm. Her father’s favorite expression was “It’ll burn the nastiness out of you!” referring to the spicy Italian dishes made at home. Ironically he owned a coffee shop called Nick’s Sweet Shop” so Lisa truly did grow up as a “Kid in a Candy Store”
With a degree in Accounting/Finance from Rutgers University, Lisa, neither a chef nor a cook, began eating her way through the best restaurants that NYC had to offer. After becoming disillusioned with the business world and always wanting to be an actress she headed to Los Angeles to work in the film business. She quickly found work as a Production Accountant and landed a job on the movie “Super” in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Arriving in Baton Rouge the day after Thanksgiving to visit friends, she regaled them with her hilarious story of her broken heart and the pie. It was there that the infamous “Coconut Pie and a Bottle of Wine” story was born, which became the inspiration for “Meanwhile Back at Café Du Monde” and has now become the first chapter in the book.
In addition to telling crazy food stories, she continues to work as a Production Accountant in film and television. She has worked on such shows as Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire, Showtime’s Weeds and AMC’s The Walking Dead. She is currently finishing up my third season as the Key Production Accountant on ABC’s REVENGE.
