Fashion Blog by Desirée Anderson – Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2013- Trend Watch
With the Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, or #NYFW as you Instagramers have so diligently been tagging away, is beginning to wind down in the Big Apple, we can really take a step back and see the different trends taking place this season. For a plethora of reasons, including a Miller Lite commercial booking, I was unable to attend the festivities this year?I know, super sad face. BUT, thankfully we live in an age of countless social media resources to act as our eyes and ears in the multitude of fashion frenzy events and runways shows.
Thus far, I can say without hesitation that Dolce and Gabbana as well as Hervé Léger have been at the height of my watch list. D&G is not one to disappoint. In the Fall 2013 show, there was hardly a moment that didn?t incorporate a bedazzling spectacle of royal hues, metallics and crystal embellishments. No wonder front row spectators don dark sunnies reminiscent of Anna Wintour’s iconic trademark. I loved the feminine A-line accentuate found in almost all their pieces and lurid displays of Byzantine mosaics. With clothes seemingly fashioned for the likes of regal stature, the crown adornments and gaudy earrings added an unrivaled touch of decadence to each ensemble. There?s no doubt that Dolce and Gabbana have made quite a statement this fall. The only thing left to do is find a party befitting of such chic threads. Trip to Italy, anyone?
Not to be outdone, Hervé Léger represented chic, modern beauty with this Spring 2014 collection. Heavy usage of zippers, slits and symmetrical patterns gave each piece a futuristic appeal, all-the-while keeping it classic with mostly black and white fabric and an occasional but subtle pop of blue or pastel pink. As always, the collection boasts svelt cuts and slimming designs to emphasize a feminine high-fashion physique.
Alon Livne made a psychedelic splash today at their Lincoln center runway show. I’ll admit I wasn?t too familiar with the brand but now that I?ve had the privilege of witnessing such a fierce display of style, I have an overwhelming feeling that I am not the only one who will be paying much closer attention to what?s to come next from the Israeli designer.
All in all, I am thoroughly pleased with what I?ve seen from many of the top designers. I am particularly, and not so shyly, obsessed with the high-waisted pencil skirts & shorts paired with matching crop tops and the array of beautiful, rich colors that have had quite a presence this year. I am a big advocate for classic demure fashion but I also find jewel tones to be simply irresistible in any season. With my upcoming travels to Morocco and a handful of countries throughout Europe waiting for me to explore, it?s never too early to start packing a powerful suitcase of wardrobe and with the assistance of this past week?s fashion hysteria in New York City, I most definitely feel more equipped to rise to the occasion! ?But, Fashion Week is not over yet so stay tuned to see what Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Rachel Zoe and more have in store for you fashionistas and don?t forget to follow me on Instagram for all your guilty fashion viewing pleasures! @DeziStyle
