Actor, Director, Educator Amir M. Korangy on ActorsE Chat with Celebrity Host Sandro Monetti
Amir Korangy is a seasoned director, actor (IMDb) and educator with thirty years of experience working in UK and US. He attended George Washington University, National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, studied directing at Catholic University and holds an M.A. with Merit from Middlesex University, London. He has produced and directed over a hundred plays ranging from classic tocontemporary in both the UK and US. In addition to his extensive stage work his acting credits include the lead in ‘Breath of Life’, which received a BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Awards) nomination, as well as guest starring roles for BBC, HBO, Channel Four UK, London Weekend Television, Thames Television, Granada, Warner Brothers, CBS, and ABC. His most recent credits include the lead role in the feature film ‘Stepping High’ and guest starring roles in ‘Scandal’, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ and ‘Obituaries’. He has worked as visiting professor at E 15 Acting School, University of Essex, Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, The School of Science of Acting, and was the professor of Theatre History for the London Program at Pepperdine University. He was a key speaker on diversity issues in theatre at the 2005 Theatre Conference at Barbican in London and a major contributor to the Standing Conference of University Drama Departments on Teaching Stanislavski in the UK. He was also external advisor on the B.A. Acting validation for The Arts Institute in Bournemouth and M.A. validation for Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Mr. Korangy was appointed as the Head of Postgraduate and MA courses at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts / University of East Anglia in 1997.
In 2003 he was promoted to the position of Director of Acting Program, responsible for the management and delivery of B.A., M.A. Performance, and M.A. Directing Courses, a post he held until August 2011. During Mr. Korangy’s tenure at Mountview, Dame Judi Dench became the President of the Academy and the Performance programs received the Michael Elliot Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to British Drama Training’. Prior to his appointment as the President of Theatre of Arts in September of 2013, Mr. Korangy was a Guest Director and member of the Acting Faculty at American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He is thrilled to be associated with an institution dedicated to excellence in training and is passionate about facilitating the further development of the students at Theatre of Arts into highly skilled and creative professional actors.
