Daily Variety,
The Hollywood Reporter, Summer Double Issue, June 24th-July 15th, – “The Bin Laden Boom,” by Pamela McClintock. A Navy recruitment video morphs into a potential blockbuster starring real SEALs. Remember life before May 1st, when war movies were considered as doomed as the mission to find and kill Osama bin Laden? A string of films centering on the U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan from Rendition to Green Zone to the Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker had failed to lure audiences. But now, in the wake of bin Laden’s death at the hands of Navy SEALs, the genre couldn’t be hotter. And on June 5th, Ryan Kavanaugh’s Reality Media announced one of the more unusual projects: Mike “Mouse” McCoy and Scott Waugh’s Act of Valor, which stars actual SEALs and began life as a recruitment video for the U.S. military’s Naval Special Warfare Command. And check out the exclusive interview with former Navy SEAL, Craig Sawyer at W W W dot Actors Reporter dot com.

Daily Variety, Monday, July 11th, – Pros and Con, Biz weighs risks and rewards, by Marc Graser. That’s right, it’s Comic-Con time again and the Actors Reporter will be there. Will you? For film fans, buying an early ticket to Comic-Con before Hollywood locks in its presentations can be a gamble. The San Diego confab has been sold out since February, but it wasn’t until last week that studios officially unveiled their plans and confab organizers unveiled the official schedule for the four-day event, which kicks off July 21st. The 130,000 fans expected to attend won’t be disappointed, though. Hollywood is again promising first looks at high-profile Film and television shows still in production. Sounds like a good way to generate some pre-release buzz. Don’t forget to check out the Actors Reporter web site for our coverage of Comic-Con 2011.

Daily Variety, Tuesday, July 12th, – In Variety’s Six Degrees of Variety Events and Connections Section, Mobile’s Gene Machine. Kiss founder Gene Simmons has been named to keynote the second L.A. Mobile Entertainment Summit in September. The rocker has branched out into licensing and new media, and recently signed on as a business partner and spokesperson for Interntainment Media’s Ortsbo worldwide translation platform for social media. Produced in association with Variety by Unicomm and the Bob Dowling Group, the event takes place at the Hollywood and Highland Center. Rock on Mr. Simmons.
