Hi everybody, I’m Cerris Morgan-Moyer of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. We’ve found some amazing articles this week that we think you should check out. Remember, our goal at the TradeVine is to help you, the actor, stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, May 15th – Personality is Half the Audition Battle, by Joseph Pearlman. This pilot season, 17 of Joseph Pearlman’s clients booked roles in major network and film projects. There’s no mystery as to why. The secret to booking a role begins and ends with this: Don’t try to guess what “they” are looking for. Assume you are what they’re looking for and bring yourself to the role! Your secret weapon as an actor is your unique personality. If you have prepared and coached the role responsibly, the work should be planted deep inside you without you having to “show it” when acting. Some of Pearlman’s best advice, “Don’t let anyone try to steal your talent and sell it back to you in the form of some stale technique or method. Fight like hell to bring your unique and original self to everything you do.” That sounds like some pretty sound advice.

The Hollywood Reporter, May 15th – Locarno Film Fest unveils new ‘Step In’ initiative for Eastern and Central Europe, by Eric J. Lyman. The so-called “exchange platform” aims to help reinvigorate the cinema industry in 12 former communist countries. Organizers call Step In an “exchange platform” that will include a dozen major exhibitors and distributors representing the 12 countries in the program, who will be invited to the Industry Days market event at the lakeside Swiss festival. The goal is for these figures to debate and discuss various approaches to marketing and distribution. The eventual aim, organizers say, is to help new forms of commercial collaboration to evolve to “reinvigorate” the cinema industry in the countries involved. The 65th edition of the Locarno festival will run Aug. 1st -11th.

Daily Variety, May 15th – Cannes Market turns up volume, by Diana Lodderhose and Dave McNary. The one sure thing about the Cannes Market: the volume has been turned up. Not only is the 2012 edition of the fest offering up a raft of fresh sales companies headed by experienced players, but all bizzers — old and new — are bringing hefty, well-packaged slates that aim to satiate the more commercial appetite that buyers have acquired after the success of such global hits as “The Hunger Games,” the “Twilight” franchise and “The Artist.”

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Cerris Morgan-Moyer. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!
