Hi everybody, I’m Michael Thieling of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, March 8th – How to Book Work Now! by Risa Bramon García and Steve Braun. Pilot Season. Are you over it yet? Either you’ve been auditioning like crazy and are up to your eyeballs in “sides” or you’re watching the party from the outside and struggling with the notion that your dreams aren’t coming true. This is not an easy time of year and many are on a desperate search for “The Formula.” Truth is there is no formula. This industry is the purest example of a corporation not being a person. The purpose of CBS, FOX, or Warner Brothers is not to make sure you’re OK. The only person who is responsible for your feelings is you. And taking care of you in the audition process starts with expecting nothing from the process other than the pure, unmitigated joy of having an amazing human experience. By letting go, giving up control, and submitting to your artistry, you’ll discover that you have the power to walk into any audition room and deeply affect everyone in it.

Hollywood Reporter, March 11th – ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ Set Online Premiere Date, by Michael O’Connell. Good news for Soap fans, All My Children and One Life to Live are finally heading online, nearly two years after producers at Prospect Park swooped in to save the axed ABC soaps. Both series will be offering daily episodes starting April 29 as a part of its The Online Network. The half-hour formats will be available on Hulu, Hulu Plus and iTunes. Prospect Park partners Jeff Kwatinetz and Rich Frank thank the fans whose tenaciousness to see these shows return made this historical moment possible and are determined to repay their support by delivering new and creatively groundbreaking episodes that both the fans, as well as legions of new viewers, will love.

Daily Variety, March 11th – Friedkin Memoir Captures Shifts of a Filmmaker’s Life, by Peter Bart. It is a common belief in Hollywood that directors must not be challenged on set or in script discussions, they have final cut and they are the font of all creativity. But, a new memoir written by the superbly talented director William Friedkin does the unthinkable: It relates the behind-the-scenes stories of his triumphs like “The French Connection” and “The Exorcist,” but also sees Friedkin take responsibility, brutally so, for his wrong calls, like “Sorcerer” and “Cruising.” In doing so, he captures the gut-wrenching shifts of a filmmaker’s life, the bizarre whipsaw from success to disaster. Friedkin said he vaulted to the top of the Hollywood A-list and thought he would stay there forever, which wasn’t the case. Friedkin now devotes himself principally to directing opera, but would like to return to film someday. Sounds like a good read for anyone interested in directing.
