Hi everybody, I’m Maria Felipe of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you, the actor, stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, May 29th – In The Craft section, the article is entitled Transforming a Play’s Lies Into Fact With Stella Adler’s Help, by Milton Justice.

There is a reason they don’t just hand out a script to the audience, let them read it, and then everybody goes home. The opening lines of “Death of a Salesman” are “Oh, boy. Oh, boy.” On the page it means nothing. In the hands of the right actor, however, an entire character can exist in those two sentences. Stella Adler said, “Facts are death to the actor until they are fed through imagination and become experience.” So, How can an actor turn lies to fact? One way is through script analysis. Stella called the initial reading of the text “impressions.” Don’t worry about the performance or about the choices. Take in what’s there. Stella gave us another key: The process of getting from the facts of the play to the experience of the play is what the actor’s technique is about. The actor’s connection to the part and the character’s world is what brings a play to life. Another Adlerism: “Facility is fine, but greatness must be paid for in blood.”

The Hollywood Reporter, May 29 – London Luxury Hotel to Donate Portion of Screening Room Bookings to Entertainment Charity, by Stuart Kemp. LONDON – The British capital’s latest addition to its roster of luxury hotels is to donate 10 per cent of all movie industry bookings for its state-of-the-art digital cinema and presentation suite revenues to the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) charity. The Bulgari Hotel & Residences, opening in London’s Knightsbridge district this week, also said it is dedicating the glitzy screening room to British filmmaker Richard Attenborough.

Daily Variety, May 29th – NBC greenlights another unscripted singing series, By Andrew Wallenstein. NBC is turning to the producers of “The Voice” for another unscripted series revolving around a singing competition. with “The Winner Is,” a game show in which singers of all ages compete for a $1 million prize but, in a twist that recalls another NBC franchise “Deal Or No Deal,” can negotiate with opponents over whether to get out of the contest with smaller sums. The series will also feature a panel of judges including one celebrity to be announced.
