Back Stage, April 17th – In The Craft section, the article is entitled, Imagination is a Critical Component of Talent, By Charlie Bowles and Lisa Dalton. For artists, imagination might be the most critical key to talent. Great painters, composers and writers are all haunted by images, or are distraught for lack of images. To a true artist, the images have a life of their own. For actors, this connection to images is so important that every major acting technique relies upon its use, though each technique differs in finding the source of the image. One approach invites you to imagine your past experiences to activate a truthful response in yourself. Another is to immerse yourself in the fantasy of the story and reveal what arises in your creative imagination. If you as an actor do not surprise yourself, you’re not in a peak performance. In the zone, you experience transformation — and so does the audience.

The Hollywood Reporter, April 18 – Tom Petty’s Stolen Guitars Returned; Security Guard Arrested, by the THR staff. An attempt to pawn one of the instruments in Hollywood led to a break in the case. Petty commended the actions of the Culver City Police Department for “a job well done.” Five precious guitars owned by Tom Petty and stolen on Thursday were returned to their rightful owner on Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, police in Culver City, California arrested a private security guard. The 51-year-old was working at the Culver Studios lot, which houses a soundstage where Petty was rehearsing with his band the Heartbreakers for an upcoming tour. With an estimate collective worth of $100,000, the guitars stolen included Petty’s 1967 12-string Rickenbacker and a Gibson SGTV Junior.
