Welcome back to Solara Speaks with Solara Key: Power Thoughts
Episode 5 – Word Smart
Guest: Pepper Jay

Power Thoughts was inspired by Dr. C. Branton Shearer of the Multiple Intelligences Research and Consulting in Ohio. Dr. Shearer’s theory is based upon the work of Howard Gardner of Harvard University.

Dr. Shearer describes 8 types of Intelligence. Today, we’ll explore one type of intelligence called Word Smart or what Dr. Shearer refers to as linguistic intelligence. It is my pleasure to share today’s discussion with our guest, lawyer, teacher, author, public speaker, and the publisher of Actors Reporter, singing and acting performance coach, Pepper Jay.

ACCORDING TO DR. SHEARER, LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE IS TO THINK IN WORDS AND TO USE LANGUAGE TO EXPRESS AND UNDERSTAND COMPLEX MEANINGS. IT IS TO SENSE THE MEANING OF WORDS AND
WORD SMART CAN BE DIVIDED INTO 3 PARTS: FIRST, EXPRESSIVE SENSITIVITY, WHICH IS THE SKILLED USE OF WORDS FOR EXPRESSIVE AND PRACTICAL PURPOSES, SECOND, RHETORICAL SKILL, WHICH IS TO USE LANGUAGE EFFECTIVELY FOR INTERPERSONAL NEGOTIATION AND PERSUASION, WHICH MUST BE VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOU IN YOUR LAWYERING WORK, AND THIRD, WRITTEN OR ACADEMIC USE OF WORDS.

Stay brainy!
