THE INTERVIEW – “smart, silly and sweet”
– Movie Review by Actors Reporter

RATING: 4 out of 5

After all the controversy, threats and headlines surrounding what at the end of the day is just a comedy movie, it’s good to finally see the film and find that it’s actually extremely entertaining.

Along with the many silly gags, there is a smartness to it as well and the movie has some insightful things to say about politics, prejudice and the state of modern journalism.

The story follows the host and producer of a US TV show who land an interview with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un only to get recruited by the CIA to assassinate him.

There are some interesting acting choices which all serve the film well. Seth Rogen, who also co-wrote and co-directed, solidly plays a tabloid TV show producer striving to be taken more seriously while James Franco, as the host of his show, plays every single scene endearingly over the top and newcomer Randall Park creates an, at times, surprisingly sympathetic Kim Jog Un by bringing depth to the role.

Eminem has a funny cameo at the start, Katy Perry’s Firework song is crucial to the outlandish plot and there’s a joke about Ellen Degeneres which provides one of several laugh out loud moments.

The firestorm which grew up around The Interview has made it the most talked about movie in ages and now we’re finally getting the chance to see it, the talk can maybe turn to how funny, special and sometimes sweet it is to watch.
