Mimic Your Models: Find what you like in other performers and borrow, borrow, borrow.

So, you are or want to be a professional singer? Recording artist? Performer? Entertainer? Voice over artist? Choose your goal, be as specific as possible. Choose a group of people who are doing or have done almost exactly what you want to do. What precise performance attributes from each do you admire? Why? Who in your industry do you choose to be your inspiration? Put together a mosaic of singing artists and their song performance skills that you would like to have for yourself. What would it take for you to practice copying some of those qualities you appreciate? Learn to mimic what you appreciate. Practice copying from each their attributes you admire. Once you have internalized their song performance skill, adapt it to your own style. This is sometimes referred to as “modeling.”
