Hello everybody, I’m Pritesh Shah of the Actors Reporter filling in for Danika Quinn. Welcome to the TradeVine. It’s summer, you’ve been working hard all year, and vacation is calling. Our goal here at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with the trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, June 23rd-29th – In the Advice section, the article is entitled “It’s all in the breathing,” by John Henny. One of the greatest challenges that actors face is bringing together different disciplines into a single, masterful performance. Acting, movement, and vocal training often occur separately, leaving the actor feeling out of balance, with one skill dominating the others. One of the problems facing many actors trying to be heard on stage or even in film is that their voice has no “vibration” to them. These vibrations are vital because if the sound is not vibrating off the bones and through the muscles, it’s not reaching the audience. If you have no vibration your breath actually gets stopped in the throat. The key is to release tension particularly in the lungs and the breath to give a sensation of free breathing. Also it is important not to squeeze the ribs as we’re exhaling, but to allow a free flow of sound so it’s not a forced movement. Also, actors struggle in performing extreme vocal sounds such as screaming or shouting. However, once you know how to breathe with vibration, these extreme sounds should not be a problem. The Hollywood Reporter, in a special double issue, June 24th-July 15th – Jimmy Kimmel is late night’s late bloomer, by Lacey Rose. If you drive down Highland Ave, just down the street from the Actors Reporter studios, pass Hollywood High School to the north, you’ll see a huge outside stage. On the back of the stage in lights reads, Jimmy Kimmel. The article reveals Jimmy Kimmel’s take on Jay Leno, his crush on David Letterman and opens up about the slow-but-steady ratings climb that his turned this one-time slacker into a sleeper success. And, interestingly enough, two of the people in photo with Jimmy Kimmel have been guests on ActorsE Chat Show, Christopher Dennis as Superman and Jennifer Gehrt as Wonder Woman. Jimmy Kimmel has found a unique way of joining the Hollywood community.

Daily Variety, Wednesday, June 29th – Talks about the USA Network’s debut of the pilot “Necessary Roughness”, a show conceived by Actors Reporter host, and veteran actor Joe Sabatino, and his sister, psychotherapist, Donna Dannenfelser. The TV review shows a picture of Callie Thorne and Marc Blucas stars from “Necessary Roughness.” According to the reviewer, Brian Lowry, “Necessary Roughness” is a pleasant, shrewdly conceived dramady from the slick machine known as USA Network. It provides a longtime supporting player Callie Thorne a well-deserved star vehicle and the show offers a nifty mix of work and home life, while simultaneously balancing lighter material with the pain of a woman going through a divorce, all told, “Roughness” represents a silky smooth addition to a lineup of series whose commitment to old-fashioned fundamentals and minimal histrionics improbably keeps playing off. Congratulations to everyone at Sony and USA Network on “Necessary Roughness.”
