Hi everybody, I’m Brett Walkow of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Danika Quinn is on assignment. All of us at the TradeVine wish you a warm and happy holiday season and the very best for the New Year. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.
Daily Variety, Tuesday, December 27th – Artists seek digital coin, by Christopher Morris. The ongoing legal battle between artists and labels over digital royalties widened late last week, as two new suits alleging gross underpayments to acts were filed. On Friday, singer-guitarist Peter Frampton sued A&M Records, a unit of Universal Music Group, claiming he was paid a fraction of what he was due for downloads of his ‘70s hits. Peter Frampton is just one of several artists now suing over digital royalties. We’ll just have to wait and see how the courts decide.
Back Stage, Online edition, December 28th – “Selecting the Shot: How to choose your headshot,” by James Shubinski. Your headshot is your ambassador to the industry. For people who don’t know you, it’s your best chance to make a strong impression and compel them to bring you in. For established relationships, it’s your chance to refresh your image, remind them how fabulous you are, and inspire them—all key tactics in furthering a career. But once you’ve had your shoot and received the proofs, you have to decide on a final image. In this digital age, with photographers providing so many proofs, how do you choose? A successful headshot is accurate and provocative. It absolutely must look like you. Your headshot also needs to market you. Think about your type, your strengths, your castability. Three steps you should follow: Step 1. Review the proofs. Step 2. Get feedback. And, step 3. Make a final decision.
The Hollywood Reporter, Online edition, December 27th – ‘The Big Bang Theory’s’ 100th episode: Is it just a dream? by Lesley Goldberg. Described as a “brain-teaser,” “quirky” and an “homage to the pilot” with “twists and turns,” could the milestone episode focusing on Penny and Leonard all be a dream? When CBS’ The Big Bang Theory airs its 100th episode on Jan. 19, it will be a look at what has come before for the show’s pivotal couple, Penny and Leonard, as well as the on-again-off-again duo’s future in a very unique way. “We tried to do a 100th episode that connects emotionally to the pilot,” said co-creator/EP Bill Prady. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all works out.
