Thespian Thoughts – The Way You Look Tonight – Theatre Review by Sandro Monetti
THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT – “a romantic comedy you might fall in love with.”
Theatre Reviews by SANDRO MONETTI
You never know who you might fall in love with and the surprise identity of a divorced ladies man’s new partner is the catalyst for this engaging and charming new comedy play.
Beverly Hills gynecologist Teddy has started dating a cross dressing Englishman named Robyn much to the dismay of his long suffering ex-wife Esme and to the amusement of her new husband, reality TV producer Bernard.
When the two couples get together over dinner, hysterical reactions and romantic complications soon follow.
Playwright Peter Lefcourt – who has written for some classic TV shows down the years – packs his script with witty one liners and rib-tickling situations…as well as trotting out every single cliché about Englishmen at the expense of the Robyn character!
The performances are all terrific – especially Blake Silver as a waiter/narrator who serves as a Greek chorus to the comic shenanigans – while director Terri Hanauer gets the pacing just right and uses musical interludes most effectively.
There’s a lot to enjoy in this romantic comedy and it’s a show you might just fall in love with.
